Investing in the index?

1. There's no size limit on investing: if you have more money, do more; if you have less, do less; the principles of investing are the same. Doing "investing" as a full-time job is quite a painful thing, because you have to have annual targets, and then you have no choice but to watch the market's mood and speculate. If you're really just starting out, it's better not to think about investing full-time. First take some spare money whose loss won't kill you and get a feel for it; after 3 or 5 years, or 8 or 10, you'll naturally reach a conclusion.
2. I personally think you should understand companies more. Of course other things affect a company's short-term profit, but if you look over 5 or 10 years, you'll find that macro things affect a company much less than you'd imagine.
3. It seems Buffett said long ago that for most investors, investing in the index when the index is cheap is the best way. I agree.
