Hold for 10 years

My personal understanding: there's also another way of putting it: if you don't plan to hold a stock for 10 years, why would you hold it for 10 days?

This line doesn't mean the stock you buy must be held for 10 years; it means that if you think a company will definitely be bad 10 years from now, you shouldn't buy it now.

I often see people say that although they know the company will go downhill in a few years, they think the share price may still rise in the short term... What does that mean?
