Today, on the way to play golf at Stanford, I saw a small truck broken down on the shoulder, with a police car parked behind it, lights flashing. It reminded me of a similar experience of my own many years ago. My car suddenly had a problem; I barely managed to drive it onto the shoulder between two intersecting roads and stop. While I was calling for a tow truck, a police car came and stopped behind me with its lights on. After asking what had happened, the officer told me some safety precautions, then waited behind me until the tow truck came before leaving. Although I live in a cruel capitalist society, sometimes I really can feel some warmth.
