22. [2008-12-28 22:22] The documentary Young And Restless Chinese is OK, but not much information in it for Chinese people
23. [2008-12-28 22:26] The films Feng Xiaogang makes are going downhill. If You Are the One isn't as good as A World Without Thieves and Cell Phone; no real theme, but his style is to fit the moment, fairly close to reality. Still, I think he's better than Zhang and Chen. [Translator's note: the source misspells Feng's name (冯晓刚) and writes 显示 for 现实 "reality"; Zhang and Chen are presumably Zhang Yimou and Chen Kaige.]
24. [2008-12-28 23:12] http://www.chinavalue.net/Article/Archive/2007/2/28/57607.html I agree with the author's comments on the "age 29 phenomenon"
25. [2008-12-28 23:14] @王兴 Art can be seen as a severe division in labor efficiency..
26. [2008-12-28 23:20] Random thought: if money were put up to set up a fund rewarding people who report vile social phenomena, could it cure the numbness? For example, village and local cadres covering up the trafficking of women, or people reporting the occupation of public resources, giving whistleblowers an objective cash reward. Say, a reward of 20,000 for reporting one case of buying a wife; that way 1 million could save 50 people, which would be very meaningful.
27. [2008-12-28 23:20] objective -> considerable [Translator's note: his correction to post 26, where he typed 客观 "objective" for 可观 "considerable."]
28. [2008-12-29 11:53] @王兴 Modern and postmodern are pronouns, they are shifting..
29. [2008-12-29 12:02] Python sort isn't quicksort, and the docs don't state the time efficiency directly. Really slow
30. [2008-12-29 15:49] Only yesterday did I happen to discover what a certain friend's id, truman, means... I'd always thought it was trueman mistyped..
31. [2008-12-29 15:53] @王兴 Yeah, I didn't know before that Truman was the "English name" of 杜鲁门. Looks like msnbot doesn't work any more; I only saw your message after checking the web page
32. [2008-12-29 16:03] After using pietty for a while, decided to ditch SecureCRT; poor utf8 support

January 2009
36. [2009-01-22 01:07] Ran a test: realloc really does cost time. Mallocing one big block of memory exponentially is three times slower than reading the same amount from disk. Reportedly people at Baidu dislike C++ STL because of this, though actually STL can easily avoid this kind of problem too.
37. [2009-01-22 13:54] The gtalk inside my gmail won't come up
38. [2009-01-22 14:00] http://it.sohu.com/20090121/n261880310.shtml This reporter is too unreliable; got it backwards, surely

40. [2009-01-22 18:36] In China there's really no left-right struggle any more; left and right are just tools. In the end it's a struggle between the vested-interest group and ordinary common people, and the vested-interest group, in the end, is the handful of people who call themselves great, glorious and correct.
41. [2009-01-22 20:18] Some of the data listed is interesting
42. [2009-01-22 21:15] Program development and information processing ultimately just move and change bytes, so I propose an unorthodox programming philosophy different from so-called interface-oriented, object-oriented and aspect-oriented: byte-oriented programming (BO)... After all, interfaces alone don't solve problems
43. [2009-01-22 21:26] Trying the iPhone version with Firefox

50. [2009-01-23 13:47] The links Baidu's trending list gives are web search results; really it should give blog search, news search and forum search results, or at least the fastest-rising list should

Though I'd never heard of this show.. so behind the times
54. [2009-02-16 15:44] Reading books of knowledge always tires me easily; after 20 minutes I want a break, so I've decided not to buy a Kindle 2. I can't read that many classics, and reading too many junk books does no good

61. [2009-02-17 10:27] @chase No idea :)
62. [2009-02-17 12:50] Quite a few people online analyze the current market as an unhealthy phenomenon caused by credit funds entering the stock market
63. [2009-02-17 14:45] Super sleepy
64. [2009-02-17 15:01] Was super sleepy just now: 1 reason is today is especially good for sleeping, 1 reason is I lost the thread and hit a chapter I couldn't follow
65. [2009-02-17 16:30] Interesting, novel
66. [2009-02-17 16:36] cool, never thought of doing heavy computation in js on the client; actually it's not impossible

71. [2009-02-17 21:08] First rigidify, then optimize, for organizations; first concrete, then abstract, for engineering; first primitive, then advanced, for living things: these are the more reliable paths; it's hard to get it all right at once
March 2009
72. [2009-03-11 15:32] Could this service be used for low-volume image recognition?
73. [2009-03-11 15:52] @wanght Yeah, what I meant is that purely from a startup angle, people with US work experience seem less capable of starting companies than dropouts. But China is the opposite: still very few dropouts have achieved great things.

76. [2009-03-11 19:36] Everyone come and link your MSN; actually your signature line becomes a broadcast loudspeaker
77. [2009-03-11 21:02] @撕烤者 Your search requirements are too high.. building that index is a lot of trouble and takes a lot of space
78. [2009-03-11 22:49] Found a basic mistake that caused a failure. It would be ideal if the whole web platform were programmable; today's mash-ups are too lightweight. Actually you could also say a search engine is a large-scale, low-specialization mash-up
79. [2009-03-12 09:55] Strange, can't get a taxi
80. [2009-03-12 10:00] @AlephNK Hi. Yeah, finally got one
81. [2009-03-12 13:12] I remember the gist of an article, but I can't find it by searching. Maybe because it was in English, and after I read it, it was in Chinese in my head.
82. [2009-03-12 14:31] I have to say the Gong chan dang is too hateful; blocking google docs causes others so much trouble. Aren't these people afraid that when times change, everyone will throw bricks at them? [Translator's note: "Gong chan dang" (共产党, the Communist Party) is written partly in pinyin in the source.]
83. [2009-03-12 22:42] @王兴 Someone that two-timing? [Translator's note: the source writes 兼 "concurrent," apparently for 贱 "lowly"; sense uncertain.]
84. [2009-03-12 23:38] You can find friends on Fanfou now; lots of friends are on here, go find them

104. [2009-04-13 17:21] This age now is the age of accelerated maturing. My feeling is that sixteen or seventeen is when one's mindset takes shape, and before 30 it takes shape again
105. [2009-04-13 17:21] @闫志东 Congratulations! Dinner's on you tonight.

107. [2009-04-13 19:47] The iPhone really does lose contacts
108. [2009-04-14 13:44] I recall what I saw in a hospital last year: a patient from Shandong kept asking the doctor whether the 60,000 could be covered; if not, he didn't want the operation. He lingered in the outpatient clinic, hesitating, unwilling to leave.
109. [2009-04-14 17:03] Going swimming tonight
110. [2009-04-14 23:59] Finally in good spirits today; swimming plus physiotherapy
October 2009
111. [2009-10-20 14:58] @郭万怀 I just watched it recently too.. but what I saw is that people habitually start from their own habits, ideas and emotional positions, and the film exposes this human weakness and the capacity to reflect according to reason; it's not stressing American legal values. I watched it twice --- to practice my listening..
112. [2009-10-24 17:32] @qinyf Use the built-in set, no import needed

November 2010
120. [2010-11-25 21:50] My last post was actually about alcohol. If Fanfou had only reopened a hundred years from now, the account owner would very likely have been judged a heavy drinker.
121. [2010-11-27 20:14] @realazy ..looks like if you keep going you'll be digging instructions and registers off the CPU
December 2010

February 2011

126. [2011-02-19 11:11] @王兴 Not reliable. I'd rather use an iPhone 1 than a Milestone [Translator's note: the source writes 叶 for 也.]
127. [2011-02-20 03:20] @陈亮 I used a Milestone for 3 months and recently switched back to the iPhone 4. Milestone VPN has bugs, the physical keys are redundant, the capacitive screen responds poorly, photos aren't sharp, account sync errors, email reply subjects garbled, worried the Market isn't safe, some apps keep launching themselves, can't install to the SD card by default, not enough memory, music player bugs, can't fit any more..
March 2011
